How To Install A WordPress Theme
Even a beginner can install a WordPress theme – here’s how to do it:
Get A Web Host Account With WordPress Installed On It
All website hosting companies offer WordPress installation for free these days – we recommend InMotion Hosting – this site is hosted on InMotion and we’re happy with their service. It will cost you around $5 a month.
After you get your account, you’ll be able to log into the Control Panel area and look for the link that says “Install WordPress”, follow the prompts and you will be done in about a minute.
If you need a domain name, you can buy one there at InMotion, or you can try NameRanger – it’s an incredible domain name finding tool that we love. It’s hard to locate a domain name (that’s a web site name, such as ‘BillsTools.com’) that nobody else has taken yet, and NameRanger does a fantastic job of finding available names that are similar to the one you want, but that you probably didn’t think of. Then it tests to see what’s available for you, all in a moment or two.
Purchase A WordPress Theme For Your Site
The default WordPress theme is just there to fill space until you put in a better theme in generally. WordPress is built so that you can take a new “theme” which is really the sites look and feel – and apply it to your site easily. Some people say that you are “re-skinning” your site with a new look and feel.
When you apply a new theme you are changing the colors, page layouts, fonts, images and everything that goes into the look and feel or design of the site.
Professional WordPress themes, like we sell here, have all the colors, fonts, layouts and everything else already chosen and ready, and are very easy to use with little or no web development experience. That being said, all of the things on the WordPress theme can be changed in the editor area, but that requires knowledge of HTML, CSS, and PHP. But don’t worry, because you probably won’t need to do any of that type of customization.
Where To Get A Good WordPress Theme
Of course, you know by now that we sell incredible looking premium WordPress themes here, for around $65, that you can use as the web design for your WordPress site.
You can also find a lot of free WordPress themes, but you’ll notice that they are not very good looking – nowhere near as nice as the premium designs we offer – and you probably will wish to put your best foot forward with your site. If you have a substandard looking site, it really harms the trust you are trying to establish with your users. Better to start off with a really fantastic looking design on your site in order to establish credibility with your users.
After You Have Your WordPress Site, Log Into Your Dashboard
Now that you have your WordPress admin area all set up, and your theme purchased, you’re ready to go though the fairly simple and user-friendly installation process.
After WordPress is installed and running on a specific website of yours, you can go and log into your WordPress Control Panel (WordPress calls it a ‘Dashboard’) – typically you do this by going to “http://www.YOURSITENAME.com/wp-admin/’ in your web browser.
Installing the WordPress theme
First, on the admin page sidebar, there is a tab labeled “Appearance”, and under that, click the tab labeled “Install themes”. Near the top, there are a few links “Search | Upload | Featured | Newest | Recently Updated”… click the one that says “Upload”. Upload your new theme that you purchased, and follow the prompts. WordPress will automatically unpack and install it all within less than a minute!
Lastly, click “activate”, and then it should become your websites new WordPress theme! You can now edit it, using the tools on the sidebar menu.
Your new WordPress theme should now be installed and ready to use.
