How To Install A Joomla Theme

Installing a Joomla theme is very much like installing a WordPress theme. Basically you will need a web site account with Joomla installed on it (all web hosts offer this free these days within your hosting account), and then you’ll upload your Joomla theme to your site, click INSTALL, and you’re basically done. It’s very quick and simple.

Get A Hosting Account With Joomla Running On It

We like and recommend InMotion Hosting for website accounts… this site is hosted on it and we like their service… it will cost you about $5 a month for your web site account.

After you have your account set up, you can click a button inside your site Control Panel to install Joomla. It will take about a minute.

Choose A Joomla Theme You Like As Your Site Design

You can do that here – we sell thousands of fantastic looking Joomla themes for about $65 each. You can use the Search form at the right of this page to browse tons of premium Joomla template designs. Choose one, add to your cart, check out and a few moments later you will receive the download link in your email. Download the Joomla file to your hard drive.

Upload Your Joomla Theme To Your Site

Typically the Joomla template or theme file is comprised of a number of files – HTML, PHP, CSS, XML, JavaScript, and Image files and directories. That might be of interest if you’re a web developer, but if not, don’t give it another thought. You don’t need to know anything technical in order to install your new Joomla theme.

To Upload and Install a New Joomla Template:

Navigate your Joomla Control Panel, go to the Template Manager… select “Extensions…Install/Uninstall” from the menu near top of page.

Follow the prompts to upload your new Joomla file that you downloaded to your hard drive, and Joomla will automatically install your new theme.

Assuming everything works properly, you will see a page that says “Upload template – Success”. This confirms the name of the Template installed and displays the template design author’s Template description notes.

If things did not go well, you will see “Upload template – Failed”, followed by the reason for the failure. Make a note of the reason and contact your web site host Tech Support. They should be able to get you set up pretty quickly since they do this all day.

The newly installed Template will now be listed in the Template Manager and access to all the functions and features for the template will be found here.
